Any is better than none?

Martin (my younger brother) and I went for an early morning surf. Turned out that there was to be a howling onshore! As I always say, any is better than none.. Especially if your wavecount has been on the loooow side for too long!

Finished with exams? I hope so..!!

So I am finally finished with exams. Halfway through November and I'm on holiday! My younger brother had an exam today and needed a lift. I offered to take him, so I had some spare time to surf. Had a surprisingly fun session. Was so surprised, we were eight guys in the water for about 2 and a half hours.

Its been too long since I had a proper surf. Not that the waves were big. Any surf is better than no surf..

The books and I

And hopefully for the last time it's exam time again! Not keen, but this has to be done! Looking forward to my life after exams! As a wise man once said, "this also will pass".

PE Loving

Was surfing in Port Elizabeth with my younger brother. Waves were tiny, but who could stay away when the ocean is this beautiful...

Sunshine Coast

Tracy and I went to Jbay for our 5 year anniversary on Friday. But before we could get the celebrations on way, I first had a job interview at Jeffreys Bay Primary School. We had to leave out of Port Elizabeth at 6:40 to make the interview at 8 o clock. When I walked into the offiice there were four people sitting around a table waiting to interview me. Only then I realized that it would be a real interview as the Principal told me that they just want to speak to me.

When in doubt, keep praying!

We stayed at a self-catering guest house called Dreamland. Its a 30m walk along a grass patch from the world famous right hand point break "Supertubes"! We had a fun little weekend. We walked to the beach like twenty times, as its so close.

After the weekend came to an end, we went to Tracy's house in Kenton on Sea on Monday morning. Kenton on Sea is about 110km East of Port Elizabeth. Its a beautiful unspoiled area, rich of bush and game. Got to surf a nearby break on Monday afternoon. Beautiful clear water for a change!

For a confused..

For a confused young gentleman I sure do have a sense of direction for the first time in too long! I have a job interview lined up for Friday, it's been too long! Don't know if I can still master the art of interviewing! And on top of that I'm writing (what I'm hoping would be) my last test ever tomorrow.

Can't seem to focus as my head is going all hyperactive on me at the moment! So many things to think about! Some exciting and some scary. had my two steps forward, and then one back, time to make a big leap!

Beach Loving

My favourate place in the world doing its thing! Was late afternoon, and the wind swung East. The surf was still good enough, with only four other guys were out who's complaining?! I took this little clip after I had surfed. Figured that I don't want to brave it over the rocks in the dark and got out a little early.(And the fact that I still had to a 50min drive home).

Minnie day road trip- Jeffreys Bay

Okay so I seem to be posting alot about Jbay! Propably because its such an amazing place? I dont know? Had an amazing day! Three surf sessions at three different spots! First I surfed Supers in the morning, then I had some lunch (I packed Biltong and peanut butter sandwithces)  and water, then after lunch I surfed at Kitchen Windows (untill school came out and the lineup filled with Groms-who rip by the way! ) and at about five I paddled out at  Point. Was surprised that there were still some good waves left later, and only four guys out.
Saw Twiggy Baker out at Supers and he called me into one wave. He can ride biiiig waves! Google it!

One day when I grow up I also want a bull on my board!!

Yes they are edited a bit, as it was cloudy and not too much light around

Jbay with friends

Tracy and I went to J Bay with Hein and Ilse. Had an amazing time! Ilse was kind enough to offer us a bed, as we thought that it was going to rain the whole weekend, and we had planned to camp in Cape St Francis.
Friday was a bit windy, but Saturday was an absolute stunner of a day! Hein and I went for a surf, and rented boards at the Country Feeling surf shop as the car was too full to pack our own.  The plan was to surf at Kitchen Windows, but we got there to find that they were running some kind of contest. We ended up surfing the beach break in between a surf school.

We ended up the day with sundowners in the Cape St Francis nature reserve!

JBay dreams

Tracy and I went to Jbay with Hein and Ilse. Had an amazing weekend! Tracy and I have been living under peoples feet since July, so it was really nice to get away.

The picture is from the JBay fountains mall.

Jeffreys Bay

I went to J'bay a couple of weeks ago. Thought it would be a good idea to go in the week as it wouldn't be as crowded. Had an amazing day! Surfed at Tubes in the morning, and at Supertubes in the afternoon!

I live about 45min drive from Jeffreys Bay, so I usually try to surf twice. The result is normally a very good nights sleep!

This Pose

This pose doesnt really have the same impact with the shortboard haha..

Quick snap just before I ran down for an afternoon surf. Usually the best time as everybody got out of the water, or are ready to get out, and I would get a few minutes in peace, no one to hussle

Backhand

So my backhand really is a mess, think I will make it part of my 15 year plan..

Pardon me

Went to JBay recently to watch the Billabong Pro. Ive been missing it for the last three years, so I was happy to finally get one day of competition. The above photos were taken at Boneyards, Joel Parkinson and Occy in rather small waves.

Later that day I had the chance to surf with Damien Hobgood, and what a nice guy!

My favourate pose..

Been a rollercoaster-ride

The last month has definitely been a roller-coaster ride. From being employed, to half employed to unemployed to student.. Ya I know its kind of confusing. All in about a weeks time.. Just reminds you that life, and your future plans can change in an instance.

Okay so I'm all for being grateful, and have always been, always will be, so it might sound odd, and you might see it a lot, but even considering my current situation in life( or lack thereof) i still feel grateful for all I have.. I mean I could have been so much worse off.. A couple of years ago, I made up this lame saying/quote, it goes like this:

" If you think you have it bad, look around you are bound to find a worse off lad!"

Okay so I know people who make up their own sayings are lame, but I kind of live by this, as it reminds me of where I could have been.. I always look at other peoples lives (eg. people walking to work when it rains) and think that I could easily have been in their shoes and have a completely different life.

Got some

Got some more waves today. Some mountains by my standards! Didn't get to take pictures though, ran in and out to get to the waves. Posted all the documents for our visas today. Been battling for about 5 days sorting it all out. Had lots of admin today, and it was supposed to be an off day!

Stuck in the middle

Kind of feels like I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere at the moment. Even though time is ticking by, it feels like its not, and I'm guessing that I will wake up one morning and the time to leave will be here!

Exams have started at school, so the lazy days have started. Just invigilating every day, while the marking piles up. Have started with the marking, but its going rather slow! I  need to jack it up!

Exam day

Woke up quite early, don't know if it was from the excitement of the exam or the swell! Its my final day of exams and my most difficult one, while they predicting the biggest swell of the year so-far. Read somewhere that outer reefs in Cape Town will be getting 40-60 foot? Is that even possible?

Glad I'm not getting paid to surf that! Good luck to those who are!

Another

Another day of waves.. typical.. It's the day before my last exam! Ran down for twenty minutes before dark. Got some really good ones by our standards! Not really big, just perfectly shaped and running, and the odd barrel! (Which I didn't make!)

Tomorrow the swell is supposed to peak! I write at two, so will see how much learning I get done before then!

Will try to take pictures!
